SkyTrak ST MAX cons

  • Warranty is 6 months or 25,000 shots, whichever comes first, per SkyTrak's warranty FAQ
  • Battery rated at about 4 hours (SkyTrak's spec for the refurbished ST MAX)
  • SkyTrak's pages list no third-party software such as GSPro or E6

  • Course Play on Windows needs a fairly strong PC; no iPhone works with Course Play

The SkyTrak ST MAX is SkyTrak’s current launch monitor, and it replaced the popular SkyTrak+. This SkyTrak ST MAX review covers what it costs on sale, what each membership plan adds, the room it needs and the weak spots buyers should know about. In short: it is a strong choice for a permanent home simulator at its $1,695 sale price, but the short warranty and closed software are real drawbacks.

We built this review from SkyTrak’s own pages (the ST MAX page, the membership plans, the refurbished ST MAX spec sheet, the warranty FAQ and the space guide), PlayBetter’s product page and Shop Indoor Golf’s ST MAX article, all read on 17 October 2026. We have not used an ST MAX ourselves, so the page is labeled as researched. See how we research and rate products.

What the SkyTrak ST MAX is and who it’s for

The ST MAX is a compact unit, about 7 inches tall, that sits on the floor at the hitting area. A photometric camera reads the ball and dual Doppler radar reads the club. It connects to a PC, Mac or iPad by Wi-Fi or USB-C and runs SkyTrak’s own app, Course Play and practice tools.

It suits golfers setting up a dedicated room (a garage, basement or spare room) who want licensed courses like Pebble Beach and solid practice tools, and who are happy to stay inside SkyTrak’s software.

SkyTrak ST MAX features

Ball data. SkyTrak’s spec sheet lists carry, total distance, ball speed, backspin, sidespin, descent angle, side angle, launch angle and shot shape.

Club data. The radar adds club head speed, smash factor, club path, face angle and face-to-path.

Speed Training. SkyTrak describes GOLFTEC-powered Speed Training, with guided drills, as exclusive to the ST MAX.

Practice tools. Skills assessments, bag mapping, randomized practice and a wedge matrix for scoring clubs.

Courses. Through SkyTrak’s plans: 51 Foresight courses (Core Foresight), 53 TrackMan courses (Core TrackMan) or both (Elite). The plans need software version 5.0 or later.

What changed from the SkyTrak+. Dual USB ports, so you can charge and transfer data at once, Speed Training and a new modular internal design. Shop Indoor Golf’s article says ball-flight engine, camera and radar are otherwise unchanged and calls the ST MAX “a refinement of the SkyTrak+, but not a leap forward.”

SkyTrak ST MAX price and membership plans (2026)

SkyTrak listed the ST MAX at $1,695 on 17 October 2026, down from $2,995. PlayBetter showed the same $1,695 and advertised a free year of Foresight course play (it values it at $250); SkyTrak’s studio packages carry a “1 Year Free” Core Foresight badge. PlayBetter’s page also mentions a 14-day software trial. A certified pre-owned ST MAX was $1,195 on SkyTrak’s site, with a 90-day warranty.

SkyTrak’s membership page lists these yearly plans:

Full studio packages with an enclosure, screen, mat and projector start at $4,195 on SkyTrak’s site (Standard Studio; $5,495 regular).

Does the SkyTrak ST MAX work with GSPro or E6?

We could not confirm that it does. SkyTrak’s ST MAX and membership pages list only SkyTrak’s own app, Course Play and course library. Shop Indoor Golf’s ST MAX article says SkyTrak used to support E6 and WGT but is moving toward a more closed system and lists no current third-party integrations. If GSPro or E6 matters to you, the Rapsodo MLM2PRO or Square Golf Omni list both.

How much room does the SkyTrak ST MAX need?

SkyTrak’s space guide asks for a room at least 12 feet long and 10 feet wide with a 9-foot ceiling, and recommends 15 x 15 feet with a 10-foot ceiling. The length allows about 10 feet for hitting plus 1 to 2 feet of clearance. Shop Indoor Golf says the unit itself works in tight indoor spaces of 8 to 10 feet in total and uses a built-in laser for alignment.

For Course Play on Windows, SkyTrak lists a minimum of Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), an Intel Core i5, 8 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GTX 1650 or AMD Radeon 580. Macs and iPads need an Apple M1 chip or better, and SkyTrak says no iPhone currently works with Course Play.

Who should skip the SkyTrak ST MAX

Skip it if you want to play GSPro or E6, if a 6-month warranty worries you on a $1,695 device, or if you want course play with no yearly fee. Budget buyers who mainly want practice numbers will save over $1,000 with the Rapsodo MLM2PRO or the Garmin R10.

Is the SkyTrak ST MAX worth it?

At $1,695 with a year of Foresight courses included, yes, for a dedicated simulator room where you want licensed courses and club face data in one tidy system. At the $2,995 regular price, or if you care about third-party software, look elsewhere on our best golf simulator for home list, or read our SkyTrak vs Garmin R10 comparison. SkyTrak ST MAX: frequently asked questions

Is the SkyTrak ST MAX worth it?

At the $1,695 sale price with a free first year of Foresight course play, it is good value for a dedicated simulator room. At the $2,995 regular price it is much harder to justify. Weigh the short 6-month or 25,000-shot warranty and the lack of listed third-party software before you buy.

How much is the SkyTrak membership?

SkyTrak lists four yearly plans: Essential $99.99 (practice, no courses), Core Foresight $299.99 (51 courses), Core TrackMan $349.99 (53 courses) and Elite $599.99 (both course packs). No monthly prices are listed.

Does the SkyTrak ST MAX work with GSPro?

Not that we could confirm. SkyTrak’s ST MAX and membership pages list only SkyTrak’s own app and Course Play. Shop Indoor Golf’s ST MAX article says SkyTrak is moving toward a more closed system and lists no current third-party integrations.

What is the difference between SkyTrak+ and ST MAX?

The ST MAX adds dual USB-C ports (charge and transfer data at the same time), GOLFTEC Speed Training and a new modular internal design. Shop Indoor Golf calls it a refinement of the SkyTrak+ rather than a leap forward. The SkyTrak+ is discontinued.

How much space do you need for a SkyTrak?

SkyTrak’s own space guide gives a minimum room of 12 feet long, 10 feet wide and a 9-foot ceiling, and recommends 15 x 15 feet with a 10-foot ceiling. That allows about 10 feet for hitting plus 1 to 2 feet of clearance.

What warranty does the SkyTrak ST MAX have?

SkyTrak’s warranty FAQ gives 6 months or 25,000 shots, whichever comes first, for consumer units in the US and Canada. The FAQ does not name the ST MAX separately, and it is unclear on extended warranties, so ask SkyTrak before you buy.
